Info#16 - McAfee for Law School
Students, Staff & Faculty
Lewis & Clark Law School now has McAfee Virus protection software available free of charge for all current students,
faculty and staff. You are limited to one download per person. When on campus you must be log on to your Novell account
in order to download and install the software. Off campus installations must check out a CD Rom from the Lab Assistants
in the Computer Labs. Macintosh McAfee is only available from a CD Rom that can also be checked out from the Lab
Assistant Desk in the Computer Labs.
Students:
Downloading and Installing McAfee Virus Protection Software for Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP:
1) Log onto Novell. (if you do not have the Novell client installed, refer to Help Sheet #12).
2) Double Click the MY COMPUTER icon your desktop (Win XP may have to go to START; MY COMPUTER).
3) Double Click on Apps on 'Law_s\Vol1'(G:)
4) Double Click on folder MCAFEE PC
5) Double Click on Vscan451.msi
This will start the installation process. After the installation process is complete, two new icons will appear in your
lower right task bar (a magnifying glass and a V-sheild). Double Click on the MAGNIFYING GLASS icon,
Double Click on AutoUpDate, and click on the button RUN NOW. This will install the current dat files for protection
against the latest virus'. Please update your dat files following this same process as in 5) at least once a week for protection
against the latest virus' or set your computer to automatically update by clicking on the SCHEDULE tab.
6) Double Click again on the MAGNIFYING GLASS located in the lower right hand task bar. Double Click
SCAN DRIVE C: Click on RUN NOW. This will do a current virus scan with the latest virus dat files you just installed.
You can schedule your computer to Update and Scan Drive C: drive the Schedule Tab. We highly recommend you
set this up for both updating and scanning drive C:.
Faculty & Staff (from your Law School computer):
1) Log onto Novell.
2) Double Click the MY COMPUTER icon on your desktop.
3) Double Click on DeptData on 'Law_a\Vol1'(J:)
4) Double Click on the folder named COMMON.
5) Double Click on the folder named McAfee
6) Double Click on the file called Sdat4229
7) When the dialog box pops up, click Next and follow the installation instructions.
