Animal Law Certificate for J.D.s

Lewis & Clark J.D. students may now earn an Animal Law Certificate.  The Animal Law Certificate option is open to all current 1Ls and 2Ls  (and all subsequent classes entering after 2012).  The current 3Ls have the option of earning the Environmental Law Certificate with an Animal Law Emphasis.  In order to qualify for the Animal Law Certificate, students must meet the following requirements:

  Animal Law Certificate Requirements

  • Students must take both Administrative Law (100) and Animal Law Fundamentals (449 A) plus 8 additional credits of approved animal law courses.
    • Summer animal law courses qualify.
    • Several environmental law courses qualify.
  • Students must also write two substantial papers on approved animal law topics.
  • Students must maintain an overall minimum GPA of 2.70.
  • Only three ungraded credits may be applied towards certification.

 

Animal Law Course Options

4 of the 8 required credits must come from the course list below:

  • Any course from the Summer Intensive Animal Law Program (2 credits each)
  • Advanced Animal Law Seminar (2 credits)
