Center for Animal Law Studies
Student Resources
The Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark Law School is changing the world by training the next generation of Animal Law attorneys and by serving as a driving force in the continued advancement of the field.
The Animal Law Program exposes hundreds of law students to the concepts of Animal Law. This exposure not only serves as valuable training for budding lawyers, but prepares them to skillfully handle Animal Law issues no matter where their professional endeavors take them. Students receive the added bonus of interacting with respected scholars and practitioners attracted to Lewis & Clark Law School by the Animal Law Conference, the Animal Law Review and the opportunity to teach Animal Law in a supportive and innovative atmosphere.
Additionally, the Center’s faculty and staff work closely with students dedicated to achieving a successful Animal Law career by training, mentoring and placing students with prominent organizations throughout the country working on animal issues. Through the Animal Law Clinic students receive real-life experience while working on important Animal Law cases.
The Clinic is instrumental in bringing the cases other lawyers refuse, challenging the institutionalized disregard of animals, and targeting fundamental changes needed to counter the mistreatment of animals by the legal system. Animal Law students also understand the importance of community. They offer valuable contributions by raising awareness on local issues as well as volunteering and partnering with local groups, such as the Oregon Humane Society.
