Earthrise Law Center co-founder, professor, and of counsel attorney Dan Rohlf was selected to receive a 2012 Elizabeth Hurlock Beckman award. The honor carried a $25,000 award, and Professor Rohlf contributed $12,500 of that award to Lewis & Clark Law School. He asked that the funds be designated for support of the NRLI (Natural Resources Law Institute) Leadership Award, a student award granted to law students showing outstanding leadership in the field of environmental law.

Prof. Rohlf’s former students nominated him for the prestigious award, described as follows:

Gail McKnight Beckman created the Beckman Award in 2008 to benefit teachers who have inspired their former students to make a difference in their communities. The award is given to current or former academic faculty members who have inspired their former students to “create an organization which has demonstrably conferred a benefit on the community at large.” Alternatively, the academic faculty member must have inspired their former students to “establish on a lasting basis a concept, procedure, or movement of comparable benefit to the community at large.”

Prof. Rohlf responded, “I am humbled and honored to receive this award. I think it is particularly meaningful that a key criterion of the award is significant contributions to the community by the recipient’s former students. That says a lot about Earthrise alums.”
