What happens after trial?

There are three stages of a criminal case in Romania:

•        the first instance court (this is the “trial”);

•        the appeal; and

•        a second (more restricted) appeal.

All parties involved in the case (the defendants, the victims, the prosecution) can appeal the sentence on issues that impact them.   The appeals take a much shorter period of time then the first instance trial, since not all of the evidence is reviewed again.
