NEDC Pre-Round Table Prep Meeting

Date: November 15 2012 12:00pm - 1:00pm Location: Wood Hall Rm. 8

NEDC is headed to the U.S. Supreme Court on December 3 in NEDC v. Georgia Pacific West & NEDC v. Decker. Jeff Fisher, Professor of Law, Co-Director, Supreme Court Litigation Clinic and an experienced Supreme Court litigator, will represent NEDC in this matter. In preparation for the case, Jeff Fisher will be participating in a round table discussion with NEDC staff, attorneys and professors who are well-versed in the case NEDC extends the invitation for students to observe and participate in this event. In order to participate, NEDC is requiring students to come to a pre-round table discussion of the case with Chris Winter (attorney in the case at the District Court and 9th Circuit) and Allison LaPlante (author of an amicus brief for the U.S Supreme Court). The purpose of this required pre-round table meeting is two-fold. First, confidentiality issues surrounding the round table will be discussed. Second, Chris and Allison will students on the legal issues in the case. Case Background: This case stems from NEDC’s concern that sediment and other pollutants discharged from active logging roads present significant risks to endangered species and aquatic ecosystems.  The U.S. Supreme Court granted review of the Ninth Circuit’s decision that the discharge of pollutants from logging roads requires a Clean Water Act permit.  More information can be found on our website.
