Business Principles for Lawyers
This course is designed to familiarize law students with the basic tenets of business as well as the functional operations and financial tools for managing or starting a business. The course will cover the core functions of a business: finance, operations, strategy, human resources, marketing and capital creation. Focus will be on development of a basic understanding of the importance of cash flow and financial analysis such as financial statements, sources/use of funds, and valuation with an emphasis on understanding issues where business and law intersect. Students will be evaluated throughout the course with a combination of case study analyses, class participation, and a final course project – there will be no final exam.
