International Business Transactions
An overview and introduction to the law and practice of private international business and other aspects of doing business and functioning as a legal advisor in a global context. The course will focus on the practical application of private and public international law in real business situations, including legal, business, economic, and cultural issues. Topics to be covered include: legal and practical aspects of working with distributors on a worldwide basis; setting up business in foreign countries; the legal and business issues involved in exporting from and importing into the US; protecting and licensing intellectual property on a worldwide basis; international joint ventures; economic integration in North America, Europe and around the world; international dispute resolution; current trade issues, including WTO; and acting as legal counsel for foreign direct investment in the US.
Student grades will be determined by periodic assignments and a final exam.
