Health Law: Bioethics*
This course covers individual healthcare, patient-physician relations, informed consent, and medical malpractice. It emphasizes the role of law and the impact of technology in such areas as in vitro conception, surrogate parenting, human experimentation, organ transplants, genetic engineering and physician assisted suicide. The materials are almost exclusively current court cases, and throughout there is an emphasis on bioethics and personal autonomy. The course is taught from Professor LaFrance's text, using cases, readings and problems. Evaluation will be by unscheduled exam or by an ‘A’ writing project, as decided by Professor LaFrance the first week of class.
* Typically offered every other year
