Employment Law I: Clinical Add-On

Description:

Limit: 4 students

Students who are enrolled in Employment Law I have the option of adding an additional credit for representing a client at an unemployment compensation hearing under the supervision of the Clinical Faculty. Following a brief training in unemployment compensation, selected students will work in teams of two, and together will handle all aspects of the case from initial client interview, fact investigation, mock hearing, to the actual hearing. The case will likely involve other employment related issues. Students will report back to the Employment Law class on the issues in their case (to the extent possible while maintaining client confidentiality). Certification under the Student Appearance Rule is not required to handle the hearing, and evidence is preferred, but not required. This offering is intended for students who have not previously taken or are not enrolled in Clinic. However, students who have taken Clinic but have not handled an unemployment compensation hearing are eligible. Applicants are required to complete an application form which indicates their schedule for the semester so that teams with compatible schedules can be selected. Projected time commitment is 25-40 hours.

Co-requisite: Employment Law I
