Summer in Portland
Portland is a wonderful place to visit in the summertime! Check out the following links (note: you will need to use the "back" button on your browser to return to the Summer School site).
Activities
Portland is known worldwide as "the City of Roses," and celebrates its status for several weeks during the annual Rose Festival. While at Washington Park, you can also visit the award-winning Oregon Zoo or the serene and beautiful Japanese Garden.
Portland is also ideally located for easy access to Oregon's diverse and beautiful natural environments. Within an hour or two of Portland are beachcombing and camping at the Oregon coast, sightseeing or windsurfing in the spectacular Columbia River Gorge, hiking, camping and mountain climbing in the Mt. Hood National Forest or the Coast Range, hot air ballooning and wine tasting in the Oregon wine country, spelunking and volcano-watching on Mount St. Helens.
Portland is a very kid-friendly place. The Children's Museum, housed in Washington Park, is a fun hands-on activity space for children of all ages. Children can participate in a variety of summer camps and activities around the Portland metropolitan area. A nature day camp can be found right in the Law School's "back yard," Tryon Creek State Park. Portland Parks and Recreation provides summer camps and classes for all age levels and abilities, and summer camps are available through the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry, the Oregon Zoo, and the Portland Audubon Society, among many others.
