Professional Background

Dan Barnett joined the faculty at Boston College in 1990, after working as an associate for Kutak Rock in Omaha, Nebraska and New York and McDonough, Holland & Allen in Sacramento, California, where he specialized in corporate and securities law.  He is the recipient of the 2004 Boston College Distinguished Teaching Award and the 2007 Boston College Teaching with New Technology Award.  Professor Barnett has been active in the Association of American Law Schools, serving as Chair of Section on Legal Writing, Analysis and Research and Chair of the Task force on Military Recruiting of the Section on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues.  He has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Writing Institute and was the National Coordinator of the Campaign to Repeal the Solomon Amendments.  Professor Barnett has published several articles and led a number of workshops on using innovative methodologies in law school teaching.  He also has developed a variety of lawyer training programs for practicing lawyers, including workshops for the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and several large law firms.  In 2002, Professor Barnett was the Visiting Professor of American Law at the University of Avignon, France and in 2003 he was a Lecturer of American Law at the University of Aix-en-Provence, France.
