Professional Background
Professor Van Meter was a trial lawyer for over twelve years and a partner in the Williams Kastner law firm in Portland, Oregon. Her practice focused on products liability, torts, contracts, defamation and other civil litigation matters. During her career, she also gained experience in securities, corporate law, public finance and bankruptcy. Professor Van Meter also served as volunteer assistant district attorney for Hood River County, Oregon handling misdemeanor and felony trials. Additionally, Professor Van Meter was a board member and lawyers’ committee member for ACLU of Oregon and handled litigation matters for ACLU Foundation of Oregon on a volunteer basis. She is past co-president of Oregon Women Lawyers, a past president of the U.S. District Court of Oregon Historical Society, and a past member of the Oregon Government Ethics Commission. In 2010, she left the practice to teach law at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Ho Chi Mihn City, Viet Nam. She returned to her native Oregon in 2011 to teach at Lewis & Clark Law School.
Professor Van Meter has published a number of law review and other articles. Her research interests include constitutional law, human rights, contracts, torts, commercial matters an all aspects of litigation practice.
