NEDC’s Annual Westwind Retreat 10/17 - 10/19

NEDC will hold its annual weekend retreat at Westwind, a beautiful lodge on the Oregon coast, from October 17-19, 2014. The weekend will include guest speakers on a variety of environmental law related topics as well as nature hikes, Ultimate Frisbee on the beach, a beach bonfire and home-cooked meals. 

$45 for one night, $75 for two nights.

Children under 12: $25 for one night; $40 for two nights

Registration:

We will be tabling in the LRC at the beginning of October.  You can also stop by the NEDC office in Gantenbein (across from Career Services).

 

Getting To Westwind:

Driving: Parking space is limited. Please try to carpool. NEDC will set up a google doc to help people arrange their own carpools.

 

Arrival and Departure Info:  

Friday: The ferry crossing is scheduled for 3:00 pm, departing from the dock at Knight County Park (N 3 Rocks Rd).  The alternative is to hike in at 5:00 pm SHARP, from a small lot off of N Fraser Road. A tractor will be at the trailhead to transport gear at 5:00 pm. The hike is approximately 2 miles and is flat.

Saturday: The hike-in option will leave the trail head at 9:00 am SHARP on Saturday morning. A tractor will transport gear at that time. *Note the directions to the ferry crossing are different. 

Leaving: Everyone (whether you hiked in or ferried in) will leave Westwind on Sunday at 11:30 am. The tractor will carry people’s things out. We will shuttle people from the “Hike-In Parking Area” to the “Ferry Parking Area” so everyone can retrieve their vehicles. 

Directions to HIKE-IN LOCATION: Arrive by 4:45 pm Friday (hike leaves at 5 pm); Arrive by 8:45 am Saturday Morning (hike leaves at 9 am)

  • From Portland, take I-5 South or Barbur Blvd.to Tigard.
  • Exit onto Hwy. 99W /SW Pacific Hwy(Barbur turns into 99), and continue southwest towards McMinnville (stay on Hwy. 99W).
  • Take a left on Hwy. 18 (about 2 miles past the town ofDundee)
  • Continue on Hwy. 18 towards the coast; follow signs to Hwy. 101
  • Turn right onto Hwy. 101 Northbound
  • Turn left almost immediately onto Fraser Road
  • When Fraser Road turns to gravel, turn right through the gate
  • When you reach another gate, park and hike in.  The tractor will be there to take your gear.  Please do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Parking is limited; Please carpool.

Directions to FERRY IN LOCATION: Arrive by 3 pm SHARP Friday Afternoon

  • From Portland, take I-5 South or Barbur Blvd. to Tigard.
  • Exit on to Hwy. 99W /SW Pacific Hwy.(Barbur turns into 99), and continue southwest towards McMinnville (stay on Hwy. 99W).
  • Take a left on Hwy. 18 (about 2 miles past the town ofDundee)
  • Continue on Hwy. 18 towards the coast; follow signs to Hwy. 101
  • Turn right (north) on Hwy. 101; continue for about 1/2 mile. 
  • Turn left (west) ontoThree Rocks Rd.(at “YWCA Youth Camp” sign).
  • FollowThree Rocks Rd.to the Y-intersection, where the pavement ends.
  • Turn left into Knight Park.  

 

Packing List: Sleeping bag; Rain jacket/pants; Warm sweater/fleece; Hat and gloves; Sturdy walking shoes; Headlamp/flashlight; Water bottle, beer cup; Towel and Toiletries; Toys (instrument, kayak, yoga mat) *Use a bag that can be fully closed, it will be piled in the tractor
