Bike to Eugene Challenge is a one-day, 140 mile bike ride from Portland to Eugene in honor of the 35th annual Public Interest Environmental Law Conference at the University of Oregon. Our team is a coalition of Lewis & Clark Law students dedicated to public interest environmentalism, to biking, and to challenges. The purpose of the ride is to reduce our carbon footprint by opting to travel to the largest environmental law conference in the world twelve hours by bicycle, instead of two hours by car.
It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.
