Student-Attorney Roundtable Lunch

Last year, NCVLI commenced victims’ rights lunches – a monthly opportunity for law students to meet with NCVLI attorneys and other students interested in victims’ rights to discuss emerging issues in victim law.  Lunches are held at the Lewis & Clark Law School campus every month.  ***Lunch provided!!***

This month, join Paula Pierce, for a discussion of the “Intersection of Victims’ Rights and Environmental Law:  Proving who is a ‘Victim’”. 

“Intersection of Victims’ Rights and Environmental Law:  Proving who is a ‘Victim’”.  Attorney Paula Pierce will join us by skype to discuss her federal litigation on behalf of victims of crime in environmental cases.  Focusing on how to secure rights for individual victims she will discuss the federal Crime Victims’ Rights Act and its definition of “victim”, the unique evidentiary hurdles presented in environmental cases, and the hurdles presented by the charging choices of prosecutors . 

Paula’s Bio:

Paula Pierce is the Managing Attorney of the Victims Initiative for Counseling, Advocacy, and Restoration of the Southwest, a federally funded program of the Texas Legal Services Center that provides free legal advocacy for victims of identity theft and financial fraud.  Ms. Pierce is an honors graduate of Trinity University. She received her J.D., summa cum laude,  from the South Texas College of Law where she was Technical Editor of the South Texas Law Journal and brief writer for award winning moot court teams. She served as a briefing attorney to Texas Supreme Court Justice James P. Wallace.  She has authored several short publications for victims of identity theft and is a frequent speaker on identity theft.
