She joined the Berkeley Law faculty in 2005 after starting her law teaching career at the University of Michigan. Professor Van Houw eling's teaching and research interests include intellectual property\, l aw and technology\, and property doctrine and theory. Before entering ac ademia\, Professor Van Houweling was President of Creative Commons\, a no nprofit organization that facilitates sharing of intellectual property. S he has also served as Senior Adviser to the President and Board of Direct ors of ICANN\, the entity that oversees the Internet Domain Name System. She has been a research fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet &\; Society at Harvard Law School and at the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School. Professor Van Houweling served as a law clerk for Judge Michael Boudin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and Justice David H. Souter of the U.S. Sup reme Court. Professor Van Houweling received her BA from the Universit y of Michigan (1994) and her JD from Harvard Law School (1998).
