Oregon has served as a focal point for this growth\, with wi nd energy developments in central and eastern Oregon and smaller scale so lar developments in various Oregon cities. Oregon also serves as the head quarters for many international energy companies focused on increasing re newable energy production. Despite this growth and Oregon's prominent ro le in renewable energy development\, the future of renewable energy remai ns uncertain. \;Congested transmission lines \;and cheap fossil f uel prices \;make it difficult for renewable energy producers to sell their power. \;Tax credits and other policies necessary to promote r enewable energy will expire by the end of 2012 if legislatures do not act .
