Laura Ireland joined the Sheriff’s Office in April of 2010 as the Manager of the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. Laura earned her J.D., with specializations in environmental and animal law, from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2001. Upon graduation, she was the founder and executive director of the National Center for Animal Law. She has extensive experience in the animal protection field including litigation, legislative drafting and lobbying, teaching, fundraising, disaster planning and animal rescue, and organizing and participating in trainings and conferences.

Accomplishments at Lewis & Clark Law School include:

  • Founded the National Center for Animal Law (NCAL)
  • Established the Animal Law Clinic
  • Developed the animal law moot court, closing argument and legislative drafting & lobbying competitions, now known collectively as the National Animal Law Competitions.
