2009 Pro Bono & Community Service Awards

On April 15, 2009 Lewis & Clark Law School held its 11th Annual Pro Bono and Community Service Honors Awards. This was the 11th year for the Pro Bono Awards and the 8th year for the Community Service Awards. More than 7,500 volunteer hours were reported during the 2008-2009 school year with 52 students receiving Pro Bono Honors Awards and 42 students receiving Community Service Honors

On April 15, 2009 Lewis & Clark Law School held it’s 11th Annual Pro Bono and Community Service Honors Awards. This was the 11th year for the Pro Bono Awards and the 8th year for the Community Service Awards. A total of more than 7,500 volunteer hours were reported during the 2008-2009 school year with 52 students receiving Pro Bono Honors Awards and 42 students receiving Community Service Honors Awards. Over 27% of students graduating with the class of 2009 received at least one volunteer award while attending Lewis & Clark Law School, and one of this year’s students, Hallison Putnam, received both awards every year of her JD studies.

The dedication of Lewis & Clark Law Students to supporting their community is reflected in the work that they do beyond their classes. Volunteer service ranged from mentoring high school students to helping with legal representation of victims of domestic abuse. Whether starting public interest or law firm jobs, Lewis & Clark Law School Graduates carry with them a commitment to serve their neighbors.

Elizabeth Cabraser presented remarks on the importance of pro bono work and discussed her time given to seeking restitution for individuals forced to perform slave labor in World War II Nazi Germany. Judge Deanell Tacha of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals presented the awards and encouraged students to continue their service into their careers.
