To Be of Service

For the third time, Lewis & Clark has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). Lewis & Clark previously landed on the Honor Roll in 2010 and the Honor Roll with Distinction in 2013.

The Community Service Honor Roll honors colleges and universities that reflect the values of exemplary community service and achieve meaningful outcomes in their communities. Graduate students contribute hundreds of thousands of hours of service to schools and mental health agencies each year.

• In 2012-2013, students in our education programs spend more than 162,000 hours serving in 100+ schools that reach more than 130,000 students in metropolitan Portland. 
• In 2012-2013, our students spent 59,000 hours serving in over 50 mental health agencies in Portland.
• Since our state-of-the-art Community Counseling Center opened in 2012, our students have served more than 1,200 people of all ages. People who previously had no place to go for help now find safety, counsel, and hope through us.

“Students from Lewis & Clark contribute hundreds of thousands of hours of service to the community each year,” President Barry Glassner said. “We are a private institution with a public conscience and international reach, and we are a community that commits itself to diversity and sustainability as dimensions of a just society.”

All students in the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling complete internships and practica with local schools, mental health agencies, nonprofits and governmental agencies.
