Over the break, Facilities Services in collaboration with the Energy Trust of Oregon, installed several energy and water saving devices in the residence halls. The devices and technologies include:
- LED light bulbs: placed in desk lamps to conserve nearly 75% in energy costs as compared to incandescents and last more than 50 times as long
- Energy and water-efficient showerheads and faucet aerators: these fixtures are 20% more efficient compared to standard fixtures
- Advanced power strips: reduce energy waste by not providing power to secondary devices when the primary device is turned off and reducing ‘vampire loads’
