Hon. Julie Frantz ’75 and Kasia Rutledge ’07 honored by Oregon Women Lawyers

Judge Julie Frantz ’75 and Kasia Rutledge ’07 are chosen as the 2017 recipients of the OWLS Betty Roberts and Mercedes Deiz Award recipients.

Two of the law school’s alumni will be receiving the Oregon Women Lawyers’ most prestigious awards. Judge Julie Frantz ’75 has been selected as the Betty Roberts Award recipient which recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to promoting women in the legal profession and in the community. Kasia Rutledge ’07 will receive the Mercedes Deiz Award for her outstanding contribution to promoting minorities in the legal profession and in the community. Mercedes Deiz is also a graduate of the law school. A graduate of the class of 1959, Judge Deiz became the first African American woman to be elected as a County Circuit Court judge in Oregon.

The awards will be presented at OWLS’ signature event, the Roberts-Deiz Awards Dinner, on March 10, 2017, at the Portland Art Museum.
