Forest Service Approves Drilling Near Mount St. Helens

Opposition from Cascade Forest Conservancy among other conservation and recreation groups, objection submitted.

Earthrise client Cascade Forest Conservancy (CFC) recently put out a press release regarding the Forest Service’s Approval of exploratory mining near Mount St. Helens. The group cites impacts on recreation, water quality, and fish as their main reasons for opposition. Earthrise’s very own Tom Buchele is quoted in the release.

“This project would severely impact recreation opportunities due to noise, dust, exhaust fumes, lights, vehicle traffic, the presence of drill equipment, and project area closures,” said Tom Buchele, Earthrise Co-Director. “I cannot fathom how the Forest Service could legally conclude that drilling would not interfere with recreation without violating the LWCFA.”

Earthrise submitted an objection to this proposal on behalf of CFC last October. Stay tuned for more to come on this issue.
