About Us: Environmental justice (“EJ”), occurs at the intersection between social and racial justice and environmentalism. EJA’s focus over the upcoming school year is to empower and aid underserved communities and communities of color self-determine their own environmental values, particularly with regard to equitable distribution of environmental burdens and benefits, human health, and public welfare. EJ is defined community-by- community, issue by issue. Ideally it is a process of political mobilization that occurs on a local level, is driven by the local community. Therefore EJA has traditionally been a project-based organization. EJA encourages and supports individuals to develop their own EJ projects, or plug into any of the current, ongoing projects.

Mission: Our mission is to work with community organizations, students, professors, and state agencies on issues of Environmental Justice in Oregon, and abroad. It is vital to establish inclusive and collaborative working relationships between the Lewis and Clark legal community and Oregon communities.

Agenda: This year we are continuing to sponsor student-led EJ projects, host speakers, and EJ working lunches. Contact us if you want to be working on environmental justice issues in the region and beyond!
