SanSai

The restaurant also offers typical Japanese fair such as udon, curries, and tempura.

SanSai is located on NW 21st and Hoyt, nestled between several bars and eateries in the trendy Alphabet district. I’m unsure if it is a part of the SanSai Japanese Grill chain that is located throughout California, but the logo looks fairly similar. Beyond traditional nigiri sushi, SanSai offers customers more “westernized” maki-style jumbo rolls that are delicious and fairly priced, especially during happy hour- which (as far as I can tell) lasts all day. During “happy hour” a select number of sushi and appetizers are 50% off the menu price and make eating great sushi affordable. Prices for sushi range from about $4.00 to $11.00 per roll regularly, so depending on how hungry you are, you can get satiated on relatively little.

The restaurant also offers typical Japanese fair such as udon, curries, and tempura. While these items are not available for happy hour pricing, they remain pretty reasonably priced for the amount of food served. Overall, the atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, mellow, and clean. There is a bar for those who want to sit near the sushi chefs while they prepare orders, and one or two large screen TVs who want to keep their eyes on any major sporting events. Other than that, the staff is friendly, professional, and food comes out pretty quickly. So if you’re in the mood for reasonably priced Japanese food then SanSai is a good bet.
