2011 Roundtable Topic: The Volatile Real Estate Market

The commercial and residential real estate markets are in a dire situation. Within the next five years, over $1.4 trillion in commercial real estate loans will be up for new financing.  Over one half of the borrowers on these commercial loans alone owe more than the properties currently are worth. Property values are down, vacancies are up, and renters are scarce.

All of these factors have helped to accelerate the decline of the nation’s economic growth and stability, adding to job loss, empty buildings and homes, and the closure of community banks. The cumulative effect of this spiraling crisis has the potential to create a grave – and lasting – impact on banks and financial institutions, businesses large and small, and the health and welfare of entire communities.

Join us and our community participants for lively and engaging discussion on one of the most profound issues of our time - how we got here, how we are coping, and measures we can take to resolve the crisis.

All sessions are on Fridays at the Law School, from 3:30  –  5:00 PM

  • Session One:  Friday, March 4, 2011
  • Session Two:  Friday, March 11, 2011
  • Session Three:  Friday, April 1, 2011
