Our panelists were selected not only for their knowledge of the subject but also for their first-hand experience as lawyers starting families of their own and returning to work after taking various types of leave.

The MLK Day of Service is January 17, 2011. This service day is a multi-institutional collaboration among 14 colleges and universities in the greater-Porltand metro. In 2009, over 1200 students and community members participated in the MLK Day of Service. The Day will begin with a rally at Portland State University. Participants will then hop on buses to a wide variety of organizations including Big Brother Big Sister, De La Salle High School, Film Action Oregon, Friends of Tryon Creek, Friends of Trees, all across Portland. Bill Penn J.D. ’02, public interest law coordinator, has been appointed to serve on the Equal Justice Works National Advisory Committee. -
This year, more than 275 attorneys and judges are mentoring Lewis & Clark Law students - a record number! On September 15th, many of the mentors and students attended the kick-off reception at the Law School, where they met for the first time. Upcoming Mentor Program events included Lunch @ the Law School (Oct. 15), a volunteer session at the Oregon Food Bank (Oct. 20), and billiards night at Henry’s (Nov. 3). -
Judicial Clerkship application season is here and the Career Services Office has resources to help you. Students apply to these positions in the spring and summer before their final year and in the early fall of their final year. If you are not started yet, get started applying now! -
Fellowships are one to two year jobs where new graduates do public interest work. Typically, you must apply to these positions in the fall of your final year of law school. Deadlines are in the fall of your final year of law school and early planning helps. -

Lewis & Clark Law Students give the equivalent of 6 full-time workers to the community. During the Pro Bono and Community Service Honors Lunch on April 15, 142 students were recognized for volunteering a total of 12,0064 hours during the 2009-2010 school year. -

Since opening its doors in 2006, Lewis & Clark Law School’s Small Business Legal Clinic (SBLC) has provided business transactional legal advice to more than 300 new and emerging Portland businesses, primarily those owned by women, minorities, and recent immigrants. -

In a down economy and competitive job market, career counseling services have become more important than ever for students preparing to graduate and prospective students considering where to attend law school. Lewis & Clark Law School is countering panic-inducing headlines with comprehensive career services and a wide array of clinical and other hands-on opportunities that allow students to put what they learn in the classroom into practice. -
96 students recognized for volunteering 30 or more hours during the 2008-2009 school year. A total of 105 studetns reported contributing a total of more than 7,500 hours of service to 109 organizations.

Each year, the Law School presents awards to recognize outstanding mentoring service. Recipients are selected based on nominations by their students and the awards are presented at the annual Spring Mentor Program Awards Reception in March.
