Career Services

Other Services

In addition to

we offer an array of other services for both students and alumni.

Career Counseling & Planning

(Students & Alumni)

We offer students and alumni ongoing assistance with career planning from first year to retirement.  We are available for individual career counseling, pointers on job search strategy, mock interviews, networking contacts, and help researching the best employment for you.  From traditional lawyer to alternative career we have advice.  Whether you are a new student or a graduate five, ten, or fifty years out, make an appointment with one of us.

InterviewStream
(Students)

InterviewStream is a new web-based video interviewing resource available to Lewis & Clark law students to help develop your interviewing skills.  With any computer and webcam, students can answer sets of pre-recorded interview questions at their own convenience.  Your recorded answers can then be shared with a Career Services counselor to provide feedback.  If you don’t have a webcam, Career Services has a computer with webcam available.  Contact the office (lscs@lclark.edu, or stop in) to reserve an interview time. Go to www.lclark.interviewstream.com  to register (it’s free!) and begin.

Resume and Application Review

(Students & Alumni)

Students and alumni may hand deliver, email, or fax application materials to us for review.  Materials are returned with notes, feedback, and recommendations.  Typical turnaround is 24 hours, but during busy seasons (at the very beginning of each semester) it can take longer, so it is important to get materials in as early as possible.

Programming

(Students)
Breakfast with Judges and Judicial Clerks

In the fall, students share breakfast with 25-35 state and federal judges and their clerks learning about the courts and judicial clerkships.

Career Panels

Throughout the year, we host panels of practitioners from the legal community who discuss their work and how students can prepare for specific careers.

First Year Receptions

In February and March, law firms, government agencies, public interest organizations, and corporate counsels host first year students.  Students visit offices, meet attorneys, and find out about some of the different ways to practice law.

Practice Interviews

Twice each year, students have the chance to have a one-on-one practice interview with a local attorney.  Students experience what a real interview is like and get instant feedback on how to improve their interview skills.

Workshops

We present students with information on the building blocks of being a competitive job candidate.  Typical topics include application material preparation, interview skills, networking, dressing for success, and business etiquette.

Alumni Network

(Students & Alumni)

We connect students and graduates to alumni across the United States and across practice areas.  Whether you are changing cities or practices, the alumni network can connect you to others who have already made the journey.

Career Services Handbook

(Students & Alumni)

We offer students and alumni our comprehensive, annually updated career handbook.  The handbook covers all aspects of a legal job search with special information for evening students and students seeking judicial clerkships.

Resource Library

(Students & Alumni)

Between the law library and our office, there are more than 500 volumes on careers, and our past programming is archived as podcasts.  Additionally, we have a selection of resources and guides you can take with you, including law firm lists for most Pacific Northwest regions, an Out of Area Job Search Manual, a Networking Handbook, and our NW Directory of Public Service and Environmental Organizations.

On Campus Interviews and Recruit by Mail

(Students & Alumni)

Employers visit campus in the fall to interview for law clerks to start the next summer and attorneys to start the next fall.

Northwest Public Service Career Fairs

(Students & Alumni)

At the end of the first week in February, along with ten other schools, students and alumni meet and interview with government agencies and public interest organizations in Seattle and Portland.

Videoconferencing

(Students & Alumni)

We have a computer equipped with Skype for free video calls, and will work with employers to set up their equipment.

Fax, Resume Paper, Computers, and Telephone

(Students & Alumni)

We have the materials and equipment for you to put together and deliver the best application possible, and when you get an interview, we have quiet rooms where you can be interviewed by phone or make long distance employment calls.

Business Cards

(Students)

Law School business cards are available to students for a small fee through the Career Services Office.  Contact our office for current prices and an order form.
