Preliminary Statistical Information

While statistics do not tell the entire story about what you can expect regarding your job search during and after law school, we know many prospective students are very interested in knowing about our placement statistics. Listed below are the preliminary statistics pertaining to where our Class of 2008 graduates are working, by geographic area and the types of employment settings.

Preliminary Employment Settings

Of the 229 graduates in the Class of 2008, 203 reported that they were actively seeking post-graduate work. Of the 216 seeking, 200 (92.6%) reported they had secured employment and 8 (3.7%) graduates were enrolled in full-time degree programs.

Of the 200 graduates reporting employment information 89 (44.5%) were employed in private practice, 34 (17%) in government positions (including military), 12 (6%) in judicial clerkships, 40 (20%) in business, 22 (11%) in public interest, and 3 (1.5%) in academic positions.

Preliminary Geographic Information

Over 67% of students attending Lewis & Clark come from outside of Oregon. For the Class of 2008, 64% of graduates reported employment in Oregon. Of the 200 employed graduates, 163 (81.5%) were employed in the Pacific region, 11 (5.5%) were in the Mountain region, 1 (.5%) was in the West South Central region, 1 (.5%) was in the East South Central region, 7 (3.5%) were in the East North Central region, 10 (5.0%) were in the South Atlantic region, 2 (1.0%) were in the Mid Atlantic region, and 1 (0.5%) was in the New England region, and there were 4 (2.0%) in Foreign regions.

Preliminary Salary Information

The Class of 2008 had 103 graduates report the following salary information: Median starting salary for all legal full-time positions that require bar exam was $60,000. The average salary of all reporting graduates was $67,834 - with the minimum salary reported at $31,000 and the maximum salary reported at $135,000.
