Summer School Registration and Application

NOTE: Please read this page CAREFULLY! The method for registration differs depending on your status as a student: Lewis & Clark, Visitor, or Auditor. If you are interested in a distance education course, you must also read the section for Distance Education Students.

Lewis & Clark Students

Register via WebAdvisor when registration opens in February of 2017, and then through May 29, 2017. After May 29th all adds and drops must be done through the Registrar’s Office. If you are interested in an externship, please make sure to register for the Externship: Pre-registration class.

Visiting Students

A visitor is a student who needs a transcript of the work in order to receive credit at another educational institution. Visiting students should check with their home schools to ensure the credits are transferable. Lewis & Clark is an ABA-accredited law school, and the summer courses are eligible for transfer back to ABA-accredited schools, depending on the rules of the school accepting the credits for transfer. International students should check with their home school as to the specific rules regarding transfer of credits.

Visiting students can register by submitting the Visiting Student Registration Form, a letter of good standing, a copy of their student ID card from the student’s school, official transcript and a $150.00, non-refundable deposit.

Visiting students must supply an official transcript no later than 10 business days prior to the first day of class. The letter of good standing should also state that the credits earned at Lewis & Clark will transfer to the home school, and note any minimum grade requirements imposed by the home school.

Auditing Students

An auditor is someone who is not transferring the course credit back to another educational institution. Auditors may receive continuing education credits, however this must be arranged by the auditor. No Lewis & Clark transcript is generated for auditors, only a certificate of completion, if the auditor meets the conditions stated in the Auditing Student Policies Document.

Please read the Auditing Student Policies Document prior to registering for any courses.

To register, auditors must complete and submit the Application for Auditors form

All auditors are subject to the professor’s approval. Auditors will be notified if the class is full or if the professor is not accepting auditing students.

Auditors who wish to receive a certificate of course completion must pass the final exam with a grade of C or better. A student may also audit a course without taking the final exam. See the Auditing Student Policies Form for more details.

Distance Education Students

A distance education student is a student who is registered in one of Lewis & Clark’s distance education courses. These courses are open to Lewis & Clark law students, as well as visiting students and auditing students. Visiting students must check with their home schools to ensure the credits are transferable. Lewis & Clark is an ABA-accredited law school, and the credits from the distance education courses may be eligible for transfer back to ABA-accredited schools, depending on the rules of the school accepting the credits for transfer. International students should check with their home school as to the specific rules regarding transfer of credits. Lewis & Clark law students should review the school’s policy on distance education credits.

Visiting students can register by submitting the Visiting Student Registration Form, a letter of good standing, a copy of their student ID card from the student’s school, and a $150.00, non-refundable deposit to the address on the registration form. Visiting students must supply an official transcript no later than 10 business days prior to the first day of class. The letter of good standing should also state that the student has completed instruction equivalent to 28 credit hours toward the J.D. degree, that the distance education credits earned at Lewis & Clark will transfer to the home school, and note any minimum grade requirements imposed by the home school.

The address to send your registration form, $150 deposit, letter of good standing, official transcript, and photo copy of student ID can be found on the registration form.

Note: per the ABA Standard 306-f, a student may not enroll in any distance education course before completing 28 credit hours toward his/her J.D. degree.

Students outside of Oregon, California, New York, Texas, Maryland, or Washington who wish to register for the distance education courses at Lewis & Clark must contact Lucy Brehm (lbrehm@lclark.edu) or Lindsay Kadish (lkadish@lclark.edu) prior to registration in order to confirm that the distance education course can be offered in the state they reside in.

Deadlines

Registration for all summer courses will be accepted up to the first day of class. It is best, however, to register for summer courses as soon as possible to guarantee a seat.

Adding and Dropping Courses

Lewis & Clark students may add and drop summer courses online through WebAdvisor through May 29th. After May 29th, adds and drops must be done through the registrar’s office.   • One-week intensives will have a one day to add/drop with 100% refund, thereafter no tuition will be refunded.
  • Two-week intensives will have a two-day add/drop period, first day 100% tuition refund, second day 50% tuition refund, thereafter no tuition will be refunded.
  • Five-week courses will have a five-day add/drop period, first 3 days of class will have 100% tuition refund, the 4th & 5th day of class will 50% tuition refund thereafter no tuition will be refunded.

After the add/drop period you may add or drop ONLY with the written consent of the professor and $25.00 (late fee) per transaction.

There will be no adjustment of tuition for dropping a course after the official add/drop period. Remember all transactions must be requested in writing after the classes begin.

NOTE: Dropping to zero (0) credits at any time has financial aid consequences. Please checkwith Financial Aid, fao@lclark.edu, if you drop classes after the add/drop period.

On-Campus Housing

On-campus housing may be available. If you are applying for on-campus summer housing, please include a copy of your completed Housing Form.
