Purpose

The purpose of the Women's Law Caucus is to bring together the community of Lewis and Clark students interested in exploring the wide spectrum of legal issues affecting women. The WLC also promotes women in the law by providing support and encouragement to students, enhancing ties with the community, and empowering future female leaders who will work toward the advancement of women's legal rights.

New Events

Join us for our faculty appreciation brunch, Thursday, March 20 in the LRC lower lounge!

WLC Mixer 2007

Thank you to everyone who attended the OWLS/WLC Mixer!

We had a great time at ur now annual mixer with Queen's Bench, the Portland chapter of Oregon Women Lawyers. Local OWLS members and law students talked the evening through and many connections were made. (Above: recent graduate and new member of the Bar, Shannon Flowers (left), and third year student Jen McGrew (right) chat with OWLS member Helle Rode.)

Thanks to Kim Rhodes, WLC's OWLS liason, and the great women of Queen's Bench for organizing this event.

Please check out our calendar for speakers, social events, and topic discussions throughout the year. If you have great topic ideas for WLC events, or any other thoughts about what kinds of things you'd like to hear about, please drop an email to wlc@lclark.edu.

Hear Judge Susan Graber speak to the Women's Law Caucus

Judge Graber came to campus for a talk & Q&A period at the beginning of last semester, followed by a small lunch with 10 students. Judge Graber was appointed to the bench of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit, in 1998. She served from 1990-98 as an Oregon Supreme Court justice and from 1988-90 as a justice on the Oregon Court of Appeals where she was presiding judge of Department 3 from 1989-90. Before becoming a judge, Susan Graber worked in private practice and as the Assistant Attorney General in New Mexico. She obtained her JD from Yale Law School in 1972.

Social Goings-on:

Join us Next Term for a Dinner or Lunch Chat

Our Social Events Coordinator, Shannon, has been working hard to get folks together for a lunch or dinner chat. While this even isn't exactly new, we wanted to get the word out. The lunch/dinner chats are held in the LRC either from 12-1pm or 5-6pm. The dates are announced in advance via our email list.

Why Should You Go?

Because it's a great way to meet interesting new people or see folks you might not run into around campus. For example, this week I got to see my fabulous little sibling again and I got to meet two really interesting new students. Also, I found a group of people to sign up for BarBri with me. And there were free cookies! Who doesn't love free cookies?

So next week when the email goes out, we would love to see more of you out there.

For more information about the lunch chats, email:

Shannon Beutel

If you want to get added to the list, email: wlc@lclark.edu
