Heidi Hughes Bumpers

heidi-hughes-bumpers.JP759870_web2x3 Heidi Hughes Bumpers '81 became an attorney for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Hazardous Waste Enforcement upon graduation. She eventually served as a Section Chief in EPA's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Monitoring, receiving several EPA awards and commendations for her work. In 1986 she joined the law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue in Washington, D.C., and has litigated RCRA enforcement cases, Superfund defense and natural resource damage cases, EPCRA, OSHA, and asbestos enforcement actions. She has negotiated voluntary cleanup agreements and private cost recovery settlements, served as lead environmental counsel on a number of significant transactions, and has represented purchasers, lenders, and sellers in complex corporate acquisitions and real estate deals. She also has been involved in counseling and regulatory interpretation issues regarding compliance with European Union and international environmental requirements. Heidi has published numerous articles on environmental compliance and management, including chapters in Records Retention (1997) and The Corporate Counsel's Guide to Environmental Problems in Corporate Transactions (1996). She serves on the board of advisors for The Environmental Counselor and regularly lectures on environmental law issues.
