Register of Copyrights Luncheon12:00pm - 1:30pm Join Marybeth Peters for a look back at the challenges copyright law has confronted, from photocopying to cable and satellite television, and the challenges it continues to confront, from worldwide communications networks to mass digitization projects undertaken by Google. Ms. Peters will also discuss the critical need for copyright law to address the orphan works problem and update the exceptions to the rights of copyright owners. 1.0 general Oregon and Washington MCLE credit pending.

Annemarie Bridy teaches Contracts, Copyrights, Introduction to Intellectual Property, and Cyberspace Law. In 2009, she received the College of Law’s William F. and Joan L. Boyd Award for Teaching Excellence and the University of Idaho’s Alumni Award for Faculty Excellence.

Rebecca Tushnet is a professor at the Georgetown University Law Center. After clerking for Chief Judge Edward R. Becker of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and Associate Justice David H. Souter on the Supreme Court, she practiced intellectual property law at Debevoise & Plimpton before joining the NYU faculty, then moving to Georgetown.

Harry Surden joined the University of Colorado Law School faculty in 2008. His scholarship centers upon intellectual property law with a substantive focus on patents and copyright, information privacy law, and the application of computer technology within the legal system.

Judge Leval is a United States Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. At the time of his appointment in 1993, he was a United States District Court Judge in the Southern District of New York.
