NALSA Presents: David S. Case
12:00pm
NALSA invites all students to come and hear David S. Case speak on Alaska Native Law. He will illustrate the principle differences between the Indian law that governs Tribes of the “lower 48” versus the laws that govern Alaska Natives such the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. Of notable import will be Alaska Natives’ sovereignty, subsistence and land and resource ownership and control.

Access to Justice for Native Americans: Criminal Law in Indian Country Speaker Series, Presented by the L&C Law School ACLU Student Group and NALSA12:00pm Prosecuting Crimes in Indian Country: Assistant U.S. Attorneys Billy J. Williams and Craig Gabriel will speak about their experiences as AUSAs prosecuting crimes of violence in Indian Country and their roles of serving as federal prosecutors and tribal liaisons. Included in the discussion will be a description of the jurisdictional complexities of criminal law in Indian Country and the tensions that exist between the Tribes, Federal Government, and States.

Watch Party - NCAI State of Indian Nations Address1:30pm NALSA will be screening the live webcast of National Congress of American Indians President Jefferson Keel’s “State of Indian Nations” Address. The State of Indian Nations reflects on the state of Indian Country going into 2012 and outlines the key priorities for the federal government to consider when working to uphold the federal trust responsibility to tribal nations.There will be an opportunity to submit questions for President Keel to answer after the address.
