Alumni and their colleagues have played a major role in supporting law students through the long tradition of pairing students with attorney mentors based on shared interests and backgrounds.
Law student Tyler Takeshita ’23 was selected as the Outstanding Mentee Award recipient this year.
Tyler’s mentor, Justine Bonner ’18, Judicial Clerk at U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, nominated him and had this to say:
“Tyler was the best mentee ever. The best part about mentoring him is that he sought out my help and responded to it. He let me read and edit his cover letters and reached out to me about how to navigate things like competing summer offers and how to gracefully stall or coax out an answer. He had no particular ego about being new to everything. He is a star. I am so looking forward to following his future in the law and having him buy me a cup of coffee once he is in the position to be a mentor himself.”
Students and alumni listed on this page received one or more of the following scholarships: Dean’s Scholarship and the Discovery Grant.
Mike Sargetakis ’17 of Oxbow Law Group was selected as the Outstanding Mentor Award recipient.
Mike’s mentee, Zach Pavlik ’23, nominated Sargetakis and had this to say:
“Mike has been an incredible mentor and has been a reinforcing and recentering voice, navigating what has been by any measurement an unprecedentedly challenging 1L year. Thanks to the mentorship program and Mike’s gracious sharing of his time and experience, I have been able to keep perspective on what is most important during this first year, as well as develop a meaningful plan for the coming two years and my eventual career. The advice, insight, war stories, encouragement, and friendship of Mike all added to what has proven to be a fantastic first year of law school.”
