2022 Awards and Scholarships
Wyss Scholars
Casey Bage ’23 and Glenda Valdez ’23 were named this year’s Wyss Scholars. Bage will serve as a clerk at Earthrise and Valdez will serve as a law clerk for Earthjustice’s Oceans Program.
The Wyss Foundation is a private charitable organization dedicated to land conservation. Its Scholars Program seeks to identify and support a new generation of leaders focused on land conservation issues. Lewis & Clark Law School, which was selected in 2017 to be part of the Wyss Scholars Program, remains one of the few law schools in the country to be so honored.
Lezak Fellows
The Lezak Social Justice Fellowship honors the legacy of Sid Lezak by granting summer stipends to law students to encourage them to serve the Oregon community, and by providing mentorship and guidance to these students. Fellows work in every area of public interest law—an experience made possible for many solely due to the program’s support. In turn, fellows provide direct assistance to underserved clients and causes. After graduating, the vast majority of fellows remain in public interest law.
Lezak Fellowship Renamed
The Lezak Legacy Fellowship is now the Lezak Social Justice Fellowship. The new name better emphasizes the Fellowship’s goals and fellows’ focus. “Our Lezak fellows are on the frontlines as they work to break down barriers to access, address systemic inequalities, safeguard human rights, and protect our environment,” explained Lezak Steering Committee Chair David Fauria ’16. “Social justice has always been the Fellowship’s core value and now the name embodies that fact.”

Multnomah Bar Association Fellows
Five 1Ls were named as Multnomah Bar Association (MBA) 2021–22 fellows: Emilia Halvorsen, Amitav Kamani, Nick Mercado, Allison Sandhu, and Celeste Williams.
The highly selective MBA Fellows Program is designed to address the key goal of diversifying the Oregon bar by recruiting and supporting law students who have both a strong commitment to practicing law in Oregon and will contribute to the diversity of the bar. The program is currently in its fourth year.
