Center for Animal Law Studies

Educational Outreach and Support

Through educational outreach and support, the Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS)  provides capacity building assistance to primarily developing country partners focused on animal welfare, protection, and wildlife conservation, with a particular focus on animal legal education and legal practice. This includes partnering with relevant NGOs, schools and universities, advocates, students, and attorneys who are interested in developing animal law opportunities.

Our faculty and staff have been invited to speak all over the world on the importance of animal law, and on how to develop animal law education and advocacy within their own systems and schools. To date, our faculty and staff have given well over 200 speeches around the globe on a variety of animal law topics. We understand that we exponentially increase our effectiveness if we can empower others with the tools required to educate others within their own countries. This “train the trainer” approach has worked exceptionally well, and we see many of our international LL.M. graduates taking the same approach after returning to their home countries.

Additionally, we manage an affiliated international network of animal law attorneys and advocates and serve as the nexus for the growing number of animal law professionals around the globe. These efforts include supporting global conferences and trainings, providing microgrants, and assisting animal advocates as they develop innovative approaches to advancing animal protection in their home countries.

If you are interested in seeking assistance or support with an innovative project that is education based, or to be added to our International Animal Advocates Network, then please reach out to learn more by emailing Natasha Dolezal, director of international Animal Law.
