      Jesse Cowell JD ’08 was named shareholder of Davison Van Cleve. Cowell handles a variety of matters before state utility commissions, including rate adjustments, rulemakings, and accounting issues, and litigates in state courts on behalf of both individuals and industrial corporations.

      Joseph A. Furia JD ’08 joined the law firm of Landye Bennett Blumstein LLP as a partner. Furia, who is admitted to practice in Oregon and Washington, will focus on environmental and natural resources law. Previously, he served as general counsel and policy director for conservation nonprofit the Freshwater Trust, where he led a four-person legal team and outside counsel on all legal matters including contracts, corporations, fundraising, litigation defense, intellectual property, and employment. He also directed policy efforts on natural resources, water quality, and water quantity issues in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, and nationally. Prior to legal practice, Furia worked in business development and government affairs for a hybrid vehicle company and a Silicon Valley-based technology company.

      Damien Hall JD ’08 was appointed to the board of governors for CareOregon, a nonprofit providing health plan services to four coordinated care organizations that serve about 250,000 Oregonians. Hall, who is with Ball Janik, practices in the areas of land use and real estate.

      Stephanie Holmberg JD ’08 is the new coleader of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt’s real estate and construction industry group. As a former in-house counsel to a national electric utility contractor, Holmberg has extensive knowledge of the construction industry and the unique issues project owners and contractors face.

      Jessica McConnell JD ’08 was named a partner with Greene & Markley, a commercial law firm in Portland. McConnell joined the firm as a paralegal in 2004. She was promoted to associate in 2008, after earning her JD and a federal tax law certificate. For seven years, McConnell has volunteered at the Oregon State Bar’s pro bono bankruptcy clinic. She also serves on multiple bar committees and regularly presents at continuing legal education seminars. At the OSB Family Law Section 2015 Annual Conference, McConnell and fellow Greene & Markley partner Don Grim presented “Addressing Taxes Throughout a Dissolution Case.”

      Joined the Center for American Progress as deputy director for public lands. Thakar previously worked at Perkins Coie representing power marketers, independent power producers, electric and gas utilities, hydroelectric licensees, and onshore and offshore oil and gas companies. She has experience in the permitting of renewable energy projects and has advised clients on the National Environmental Policy Act, wildlife protection laws, and hydraulic fracturing and greenhouse gas reporting rules.

He works with business owners and in-house counsel to ensure compliance with changes in the law, and defends employers in litigation.

Volm, with Barran Liebman, has volunteered with BBBSCN for five years as a big brother and continues his mentoring work.
