Writing Skills for New Litigators
Maybe you’re nervous about an upcoming job. Or you’ve heard from a mentor or boss about the things she or he “wish they learned” in law school. This class aims to help you succeed as a junior litigator or judicial clerk by roughly tracking a lawsuit from start to finish. You’ll build your research, writing, project management, and oral communication skills through practical skills exercises, collaborative workshops, research and writing projects, and class discussions.
Throughout the semester, you’ll practice learning an unfamiliar area of law under tight deadlines, juggling multiple projects, and reporting to your supervisor or team through oral presentation and short emails on discrete research topics. Ideally, you’ll complete a variety of practical experiences and gain the skills and confidence you need to impress your boss, keep your sanity, and become an indispensible member of a legal team.
