Criminal Practice

Description: This seminar meets in a courtroom at The Multnomah County Courthouse. It is a fast paced course intended to prepare students for the practical aspects of criminal litigation from the perspective of both the prosecution and the defense. Students are expected to prepare for and conduct brief mock hearings in the following practice areas: arraignment, release, aid and assist, preliminary hearings, Grand Jury proceedings, judicial settlement conferences, suppression motions, sentencing and probation hearings. Students will also prepare warrant applications, prepare misdemeanor and felony charging instruments and conduct client interviews. Oregon procedural rules and Oregon Sentencing Guidelines will be emphasized. Grades are credit/ no credit. No paper or final.
