Advanced Writing Practicum
Description: This writing practicum will provide students with an opportunity to refine their writing and editing skills. the professors will select a group of four to six students to work as co-authors on chapters of a book that will be published by the Oregon State Bar in 2008. Students will work under the close supervision of a professor in writing and editing at least one chapter in the book. The student and professors will meet regularly for writing and editing workshops, but will otherwise work independently and meet as needed with their supervising professor. When the Oregon Bar publishes the book, students will be named co-authors, along with their supervising professor of the chapter(s) they wrote. The book, Interpreting Oregon Law, will provide Oregon lawyers with an understanding of how Oregon courts interpret the constitution, statutes, administrative rules, initiatives and referenda. Acceptance into the Writing Practicum will be on a competitive basis. Students must submit the required application materials to Professor Johansen no later than April 27. Students should have a strong desire to refine their writing and editing skills, have the ability to work independently, and meet deadlines.

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course. Any attendance guidelines for a given class must be provided to students in a syllabus or other written document at the start of the semester. Sanctions (e.g., required withdrawal from the course, grade adjustment, and/or a failing grade) will be imposed for poor attendance.
