Students earn top U.S. spot in global competition

July 10, 2009

Lewis & Clark Law School students Aubrey Lyon, Eileen Sterlock, Lauren Cullop, Vince Sliwoski, and John Schlosser placed fourth in a legal brief competition at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. This year over 90 countries and more than 400 law schools participated in the competition. Lewis & Clark ranked just behind King’s College, London, the University of Soochow, Taipei, and the University of Sydney, Australia, and was the highest ranked U.S. team. The team was coached by Adjunct Professor Dagmar Butte.

The Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world’s largest moot court competition. Thousands of law students from around the world participate in a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations. A team from each participating school is required to prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.
