Mary V. and Broughton H. Bishop Scholarship

The Mary V. and Broughton H. Bishop Scholarship is granted to a student who has expressed a commitment to pursuing a career in public interest law.

This fund was established in 2010 by Mary and Broughton Bishop to reflect their deep commitment to education and to ensure that talented and deserving students have access to an exceptional education at Lewis & Clark.

Mary Bishop served as a trustee of the college from 1975 until 1984, was re-elected to the Board in 1988, and was elected as a Life Trustee in 2005. Mary was Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2001-2002. She has also served on many boards of nonprofit organizations in Portland and throughout Oregon.

Broughton had a long and distinguished career with the Pendleton Woolen Mills and has also served on the boards of numerous corporations and philanthropic nonprofits. Their son, Broughton H. Bishop, and daughter-in-law, Kelley L. Bishop, both graduated from Lewis & Clark College in 1983. The Bishop family believes strongly in the value of liberal and professional education and is pleased to continue the family legacy through this fund.
