Animal Law Week Activities
Friday, March 16th (10am - 5pm, Classroom 2) - The Animal Law Review hosts its annual ALR Symposium with an exciting line-up of speakers and topics. For more information about the schedule, location, etc., check out their website.
Sunday, March 18th (8am start time, Waterfront Park) - Join a team of animal law walkers, joggers, and runners who will take on the Shamrock 5K Run while raising awareness about animal protection issues. Email Becky Jenkins (RebeccaJenkins@lclark.edu) for more information and to sign up!
Monday, March 19th (2pm - 3pm, Room TBD) – Celebrate the opening of the newly constructed Plaza at noon, and then continue the celebration with puppies and Julie Zagrans. Julie is an Animal Law LL.M. graduate and Executive Director of PortlandOne Tail at a Time, an innovative all-breed dog rescue. Learn about the lifesaving work she does while hanging out with super cute dogs.
Tuesday, March 20th (12pm - 1pm, Room TBD) - We are holding our first-ever Vegan Donut Tasting Competition with three animal law celebrity judges. Come cheer them on as they compare the goods from five different bakeries and declare a winner. Bonus: you, the audience, will get to eat donuts, too!
Tuesday, March 20th (1pm – 2pm, Room TBD) – Immediately following the donut tasting competition, enjoy your sugar high with a fabulous presentation by Claire Howe. Claire is an Animal Law LL.M. graduate who recently founded Youth for the Voiceless, an organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of young animal rights activists through community building and storytelling.
Tuesday, March 20th (6pm - 8pm, downtown Stoel Rives offices) - Join us for our 10-Year Anniversary Party in the evening. We will be at the law offices of Stoel Rives (760 SW Ninth St., Portland, 30th Floor, Goose Hollow Conference Room), to raise a glass to everyone who has been so supportive these past 10 years. Wednesday, March 21st (12pm - 1pm, Room TBA) - Animal Law LL.M. graduate, Ever Vimbai Chinoda of Zimbabwe, will tell us about the groundbreaking work she is doing through her non-profit Speak Out For Animals (SOFA). You will not want to miss this presentation - Ever is a wonderfully dynamic and inspirational speaker.
Thursday, March 22nd (12pm - 2pm, LRC Plaza) - The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) at Lewis & Clark hosts its annual MeatOut extravaganza. Everyone on campus is invited to enjoy their gift of exceptionally tasty vegan BBQ, salads, and dessert.
Friday, March 23rd (8am - 6pm, McCarty Room 2) - We wrap up Animal Law Week with the 4th annual Food Law Symposium featuring great speakers and topics. Our lunchtime keynote is Congressman Earl Blumenauer. For more information on schedule, location, etc., please check out the Food Law Symposium website.
