Courts work with what lawyers write on several levels. Courts regularly must construe material drafted by lawyers, including constitutional provisions, statutes, administrative rules, and contract provisions. Courts also rely on the motions and briefs that lawyers write to summarize facts, issues, and arguments. This panel will explore how lawyer professionalism in writing assists the courts.

Panelists: Hon. Jack Landau, Oregon Supreme Court (retired); Hon. Steven Powers, Oregon Court of Appeals; Jean Ann Quinn, Staff Attorney, Oregon Court of Appeals

Moderator: Lora Keenan, Writing Specialist
