The goals of this training are to:Discuss key information on victims' rights\; Presen t a victims' rights assessment tool to assess what the rights look like d uring the earliest stages of a case\, and walk participants through its p rocess and procedures\; Highlight specific state law that impacts victim s' rights\, and\; Provide tips\, strategies and guidelines on keeping vi ctims engaged in the criminal justice system system—from investigation through prosecution of a case. Presenters at the event will be NCVLI E xecutive Director Meg Garvin \;and Attorney Erin Greenawald. \; Erin Greenawald owns her own law practice in Portland\, Oregon. She focus es on developing and delivering high-quality trainings\, curriculum\, and Best Practices for criminal and civil legal systems partners around Dome stic\, Family\, and Sexual Violence issues\, including trauma-informed po licies and processes. Additionally\, Erin's practice includes representin g victims of violence in protective order hearings\, violation of constit utional and statutory rights proceedings\, and other select civil-legal m atters. Until July\, 2018\, Erin was a Senior Assistant Attorney General for the Oregon Department of Justice (DOJ). From 2010 to 2018\, she serve d as DOJ's first Domestic Violence Resource Prosecutor (DVRP). As the sta te's DVRP\, Erin provided resources and training specific to Domestic and Sexual Violence issues to law enforcement\, prosecutors\, advocates\, an d community organizations\, including opportunities to improve trauma-inf ormed investigation and prosecution techniques in Oregon. Erin is specifi cally trained in trauma-interviewing having attended the two-week Special Victims Capabilities Course in Ft. Leonard Wood\, Missouri\, as well as the one-week Certified FETI course in Keizer\, Oregon. \; In addition to creating\, hosting\, and facilitating trainings and conferences aroun d the state\, as DVRP Erin continued to handle complex Domestic and Sexua l Violence cases while also working on legislative and policy matters rel ated to those same issues. Before joining the Department of Justice\, Eri n worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Yamhill and Marion counties. Fr om 1999-2018\, Erin prosecuted domestic violence and major person felonie s\, including child and adult sex abuse crimes and homicides. Erin has al so served on a number of statewide Domestic and Sexual Violence–related work groups\, including the Governor's Domestic Violence Prevention and Response Task Force\, the Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force (SATF)\, and O regon's Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team of which she was chair and co-chair for seven years.
