Paul Clement will serve as the 2011 Hon. Anthony Kennedy Lecturer. Clement was the 43rd Solicitor General of the United States and served during the George W. Bush administration. He is one of the leading Supreme Court advocates in the country, having argued more than 50 cases before the Court, including some of the landmark cases of our time. Clement graduated from Harvard Law School and then clerked for DC Circuit Judge Laurence Silberman and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. He has taught at NYU and Georgetown and lectures widely on the Supreme Court. He is a partner at Bancroft PLLC in Washington DC, where his practice focuses on appellate matters, constitutional litigation, and strategic counseling.
As part of the Kennedy Lecture, the Law School will also celebrate the 25th anniversary of Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain’s appointment to the Ninth Circuit. Says Dean Bob Klonoff, “Judge O’Scannlain has served the court and the country with great distinction, and we are proud of his long affiliation with our law school.” In addition to a tribute by Paul Clement, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will deliver a tribute to Judge O’Scannlain by video. A reception will be held for the Law School community.
