2000
Anna Antonia Giedwoyn BA recently released her debut kids’ family album, Goldfish Don’t Eat Pizza, to excellent reviews. The album features 22 of her original songs (see Anna Antonia Music).
Cristalle Irons BA curated and participated in the February art exhibit Neil Younger vs. Oldie Hahn, which was part of Oakland (California’s) Art Murmur initiative. In April, she embarked on a four-month expedition to Europe.
Inara Scott JD celebrates the release of her first young adult fantasy novel, Delcroix Academy: The Candidates; see also Bookshelf, p. 30. Scott previously worked as an attorney at Ater Wynne and as in-house counsel at Portland General Electric and Northwest Natural Gas. She has taken the plunge and left her job to become a full-time writer of teen literature.
2001
Dylan Cernitz JD was named a Rising Star in the November issue of Super Lawyers Magazine. He is an associate with Gevurtz Menashe Larson & Howe in Portland.
Christopher Larson BA is a captain in the U.S. Army. As a physician assistant, he serves as the main health care provider for the 1-6 Field Artillery Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. Larson works at the Salerno Combat Support Hospital near the city of Khost in Afghanistan, “where we treat combat related trauma injuries of U.S., International Security Assistance Force, and Afghan soldiers, and also traumatically injured Afghani citizens.” He is scheduled to serve in Afghanistan until January 2012.

Shana Harris BA moved to Boulder to pursue an MA in anthropology at the University of Colorado. After graduating, she went to San Francisco to pursue a joint PhD program in medical anthropology, offered by the University of California at Berkeley and the University of California at San Francisco. Harris conducted her dissertation research in Argentina in 2007–08; she is on track to earn her PhD in 2011.
Bradley Maier JD is serving a two-year term as chair of the Oregon Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He is an associate in the Portland office of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, where he focuses on immigration and customs law. Maier is a frequent presenter on immigration law as well as I-9 compliance for employers.
William “Bill” Penn JD is serving a two-year term on the national advisory committee of Equal Justice Works, a Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit that promotes public interest law. Penn works as the public interest law coordinator in the Office of Career Services at Lewis & Clark Law School.
2003
Maya Crawford JD received the 2010 Oregon New Lawyers Division Public Service Award from the Oregon State Bar. She is an attorney with Legal Aid Services of Oregon.
Sonia Marie Leikam BA became executive director of the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center (OHRC) in January. After receiving her degree in history from Lewis & Clark, she completed a master’s degree in education at Portland State University. As the grandchild of a former partisan in the French resistance, Leikam is passionate about making Holocaust education a transformative experience for students. To extend the reach of the OHRC outside Portland, she collaborates with organizations in both Bend and Eugene to coordinate Holocaust Remembrance Day programming. Leikam is also working with Eastern Oregon University in La Grande to create a workshop on best practices for teaching the Holocaust to teens. She adds that Sylvia Frankel, a former executive director of OHRC and an adjunct instructor in Lewis & Clark’s religious studies department, is a mentor.
Mikal Sherman BA put Ben “The Red Stallion” Eshelman BA ’03 in a sleeper hold while wrestling as his first post-graduation act. He traveled in Ukraine, then returned to the States. After three years at the world’s largest biotechnology corporation, a master’s degree, and various trials and tribulations, he currently supports the world of bioprocessing as a specialist in the biotech world.
2004
Anisa Goforth BA is an assistant professor in school psychology within the Department of Psychology at the University of Montana at Missoula. She wouldn’t be where she is “without the support and opportunities to learn through the Behavioral Health and Social Psychology Lab at L&C with Professors Jerusha and Brian Detweiler- Bedell!”
Christi Turner BA, a former Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar, provided photography for Madagascar Travel Companion (Other Places Publishing, 2010), a book by her friend Sara LeHoullier. Turner is now promoting the book and other East Africa images in the States.
2005
Dara Polk Abraham BA graduated in 2009 from the University of Portland with a nursing degree. She works as a registered nurse in Washington, D.C. See also Marriages and Unions.
Mariah Brink BA and her husband, Greg, moved from Salem to San Diego in May 2010. “We both work for a value engineering firm (VMS, Inc.) in North County and are loving Southern California. Oregon will always be home, but we are enjoying everything about our new state—especially the sun!”
Christopher Grady JD was named a Super Lawyer Oregon Rising Star 2010. He is part of the Aldrich Law Office, which specializes in construction litigation.
2006
Elisa Dozono JD received an Emerging Leadership Award from the Oregon Area Jewish Committee. She is an attorney with Miller Nash and specializes in business litigation and government relations. Dozono is also board president of Emerge Oregon, an organization she helped launch, which recruits and trains women to run for elected office.
Charles Gast BA has researched fungal pathogens since graduating with a biochemistry degree. His work recently focused on a newly emerging pathogen in the Pacific Northwest, Cryptococcus gattii. This pathogen is normally found in tropical regions and is highly resistant to antifungal drugs. Gast recently discovered—and partially reversed—the mechanisms behind the pathogen’s drug resistance. His research will be published in upcoming months. This fall, Gast transitions to medical school, where he hopes to combine his passion for research and science with helping people directly.
Cynthia Talley BA, who completed a master’s degree in landscape architecture at the University of California at Berkeley in 2010, now works as a landscape designer with Sasaki Associates in San Francisco. Through an urban design fellowship from San Francisco Beautiful, she developed a toolkit of ideas for revitalizing the city’s Mid-Market area.

Raife Neuman JD received the 2010 Oregon New Lawyers Division Public Service Award from the Oregon State Bar.
2009
Alexandra Hackbarth BA is a staff assistant for U.S. Senator Ron Wyden. In fall 2010, she was selected as a congressional scholar with the Truman National Security Project. Later that year, she was selected as a civilian enrollee with the Air Force’s Command and Staff College. After graduation—and two more years of work experience— she plans to pursue an MA in international relations and possibly a JD
Katelyn Hale BA worked on the Real Food Challenge in the Midwest earlier this year. The initiative is designed to unite college and university students for a more sustainable and just food economy.
Dylan Kruse BA is a personal assistant to screenwriter and director Wes Anderson. He splits his time between Los Angeles and Portland and looks forward to working on the director’s next film, starring Bill Murray.
2010
Parasa Chanramy BA works with kindergarteners, the majority of whom are Somali- Americans, in the Teach for America program in a north Minneapolis charter school. In summer 2010, she studied education policy at Princeton University.
