NCVLI and Lewis & Clark Law School Student Groups Host Presentation on Holistic Services for Domestic Violence Victims

On November 30th, NCVLI, with support from Lewis & Clark Law School student groups the Crime Victims’ Rights Alliance and the Women’s Law Caucus, hosted a presentation educating students about the resources available to domestic violence victims and best practices in providing holistic services.  The event was hosted as a round table discussion and featured professionals from the legal, mental health, and social services worlds, each with deep experience in helping victims of domestic violence.

Presenters included Alison Wilkinson, NCVLI Attorney & Violence Against Women Project Director; Martha Strawn Morris, Director of Portland’s Gateway Center for Domestic Violence Services; Christopher Wilson, Licensed Psychologist; and Cristina Damiani, Administrative Director of the Oregon Crime Victims Law Center.  The panel was moderated by Jacqueline Swanson, current Lead Legal Intern at NCVLI and Founder & President of the Crime Victims’ Rights Alliance student group.

The panel discussed topics such as: What sorts of special needs might victims of domestic violence have?  How can we be sensitive to the diverse needs of domestic violence victims?  What can the legal system do to better address these needs?  A lively question and answer session followed the panel.
